There's absolutely nothing wrong with a little ambiguity here and there, but when you consider again that this is a family franchise, the series' inconsistencies seem more like laziness than artful conceit. Let's consider just a few examples: the Bifrost bridge gets broken in Thor, but the Asgardian is then magicked to Earth with Odin's dark energy (aka Lazy Writing 101) in The Avengers, then there's The Hulk "always being angry", and the varying power levels of the central characters where it's never really made clear who is superior to who. On one hand, these points might be considered nitpicks considering how fast these movies chug along, and how little they matter in the grand scheme of things, but a little detail goes a long way, rather than the attitude that these are just popcorn movies that don't need a solid bedrock of logic to succeed. By this point, again, the audience is so huge and clearly doesn't care, so it seems unlikely that we'll get more detail in the future.
