10 MCU Complaints That Make No Damn Sense

6. They Can't Possibly Replace The Main Cast

The Argument

When Robert Downey Jr, Samuel L Jackson and Chris Evans let their contracts lapse, whenever that may be, the MCU will implode. They'll have to recast inferior actors or bring in less compelling characters to replace them as top-billers, and they simply won't be up to it.

The Rebuttal

Batman recasts every couple of films. James Bond recasts every couple of films. Spider-Man has been three actors in 9 years. What's the issue?

Sure, Robert Downey Jr is a great Tony Stark (even if he's edging towards self-parody at times now) and Chris Evans cuts the right balance of regal and idealistic with Cap, but the performances aren't the limit of the characters' appeal. The writing matters, the directing matters, and fans are surprisingly willing to accept new actors. Why else would there be such a currency around casting news?

Just look at Spider-Man: Tobey Maguire was excellent, but Tom Holland is being proclaimed the best ever after a grand total of about 12 minutes of screen-time. Hitching your wagon to a single actor is just silly.

And then of course, there's the fact that the comics replace characters all the time: Captain America hasn't always been Steve Rodgers, Iron Man isn't limited to Tony Stark... There is life after retirement, and Marvel already know it.
