Whenever any new character comes into the Marvel Cinematic Universe, they will invariably be compared to their counterpart from the source material. Thor: Love and Thunder’s Gorr the God Butcher was of course no different.

As one of the most anticipated new characters of Phase Four so far, there was a lot of comparison between Gorr’s arc in the MCU and on the pages of Jason Aaron’s comic books. There was also a distinct difference in the character’s appearance, something that caused a bit of a stir before the movie’s release.

The physical appearance aside, what Gorr ultimately wore in the movie was remarkably different, something that all came back to Christian Bale’s hectic schedule. Instead of what the actor described as the g-string Gorr wore in the comics, he sported a far more modest, draping number.

Christian Bale told The Wrap that he essentially didn’t have time to add the kind of muscle necessary to pull off the traditional Gorr look thanks to his skinnier look for his previous project, and even if he did, he wouldn’t have bothered. No amount of working out could have allowed him to compete with Chris Hemsworth, and so the change was made.
