8. Nemesis - Resident Evil: Apocalypse

Resident Evil: Apocalypse picks up directly where its predecessor left off, with Alice awakening in a Raccoon City that's now overrun by zombies. Eager to hide their involvement with creating the undead, Umbrella deploys a super-zombie called Nemesis to dispose of anyone who could expose them.

Anyone who's seen the first Resident Evil film should remember Alice's friend, Matt Addison, was kidnapped by Umbrella so that he could be turned into Nemesis. Even though Matt is a good guy, the transformation conditioned him into a mindless killing machine. As soon as he sees Alice in his monstrous form, he doesn't hesitate to attack her.

But while fighting Alice, Nemesis starts to recognise his old friend, proving Umbrella's brainwashing over him wasn't absolute. More importantly, Nemesis begins to remember fragments of who he once was, inspiring him to turn on his masters. He also gives Alice and the other survivors enough time to escape the city moments before the military blows it sky-high.

Although Alice went on to destroy Umbrella in later instalments, it would've never been possible if Nemesis didn't help her in this moment. He may have been designed to be the ultimate monster, but Nemesis (or Matt) should be remembered as a hero.
