10 More Great Horror Movie Scenes When Evil Characters Turned Good
6. Stathis Borans - The Fly
Early on in The Fly, Veronica's ex-partner, an editor called Stathis, comes across as sleazy and manipulative. Upon learning Veronica is dating inventor Seth Brundle, who's on the cusp of creating a teleporter, Stathis publishes an article about the experiment without their consent.
So, when Brundle teleports with a fly and mutates into a horrific monster, viewers should be eager to see the obsessive scientist exact vengeance on Stathis.
Ironically, this development causes Brundle and Stathis to reverse roles. While Stathis was initially driven by jealousy, he becomes concerned for Veronica's safety when he sees how unstable Seth has become. After Seth fully degenerates into the Brundlefly and kidnaps Veronica, Stathis risks his own life to save her in the third act, which results in him getting his hand and leg melted with acid.
Although viewers were originally gunning for this jerk to serve a grisly fate like this, there's little joy to be had while watching this moment. After all, Stathis is no longer a smug A-hole, but a hero who's willing to put himself in mortal danger to protect the woman he cares about.
