10 MORE Great Horror Movies You'll Only Watch Once

Lucky McKee's psychological drama May revolves around May Canady, a lazy-eyed outcast whose only friend is a doll called Suzie.

After having her eye corrected, May develops a destructive obsession, not just with perfecting herself but finding perfection in others. As her loneliness exasperates, she begins hacking up people and sewing their body parts together, hoping to create the perfect friend.

Now, it's no surprise to learn this Frankenstein-inspired slasher has plenty of disturbing imagery - after all, the titular character creates a doll out of human beings for crying out loud - but it's not the gore that gets to you, but more May herself.

May wouldn't have become a serial killer if she was able to connect with others, with her crippling psychosis condemning her to feel isolated forever. It's also apparent that May isn't a truly wicked person since she volunteers at a school for blind children. Even though she starts to develop a bond with the students, it ends in disaster when she accidentally shatters glass on the floor, causing serious harm to the kids.

Moments like this are so depressing and tragic, many viewers know they'll never rewatch May long before it's over.
