10 MORE Horror Movie Monsters That Shouldn’t Have Worked… But Did

9. Gremlins - Gremlins

It can be difficult to take small monsters seriously, since they shouldn't be too difficult to overpower. I mean, Chucky from Child's Play is a psychopath, but there's nothing stopping the characters from locking him in a cupboard or punting him over a fence.

The titular critters from Gremlins seem to fall into this issue, since they're under 2ft tall. However, there are a number of reasons why the light-hating beasts regularly outmanoeuvre their victims. Although the gremlins are immature, they're anything but stupid. The gremlins are arguably more adaptable than people since they figure out how to operate chainsaws, guns, and bulldozers within a few seconds.

Rather than fighting out in the open, gremlins use their environment to their advantage and rely on projectiles. They tend to hide or run when cornered, showing they have a great sense of self-preservation.

Of course, the gremlins' biggest advantage is their numbers. Since the minuscule monstrosities multiply when exposed to water, a solitary gremlin can become an army in a matter of minutes.

The gremlins can be extremely goofy, but there's no doubt they pose a serious threat.
