10 More Movie Storylines Actors REFUSED To Do

2. Christina Ricci Vetoed the Ending - The Addams Family

The Addams Family are infamous for their creepy and kooky demeanour. Despite their fondness for chaos, creepy-crawlies, and decapitations, nothing means more to them than family. (It's literally there in the title.)

However, the screenwriters over the first film adaptation thought otherwise. In 1991's The Addams Family, a pair of con-artists seek out Gomez, claiming they've found his long-lost brother, Fester.

In reality, "Uncle Fester" is an imposter called Gordon Craven. After the criminal duo are welcomed into the Addams' abode, they prepare to steal the family fortune. After the villains are disposed of, the Addams accept Gordon into the family, whether or not he really is Uncle Fester.

However, all the main actors apart from Christopher Lloyd disagreed with this ending, believing Gomez would go to the ends of the Earth to reunite with his brother. Since Christina Ricci was considered "the most articulate and intellectually gifted," the cast nominated her to make their case to the producer, Scott Rudin, and director, Barry Sonnenfield. After Ricci pleaded for ten minutes straight, Sonnenfield agreed to make Gordon Craven and Uncle Fester one and the same.

It was ballsy for the child actress to contradict the higher-ups but it totally paid off.  The Addams Family has such a satisfying conclusion, it would've been a shame if it went any other way.
