Taking out a Death Star can be sweaty work at the best of times.
Now add in the fact that these Rebel Alliance taking out a space station moments were shot during a record-breaking heatwave in Great Britain, and you have the recipe for some boiling X-Wing pilots.
In fact, it was this scenario that ultimately led to the majority of the brave freedom fighters seen on-screen in that dramatic Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope sequence actually secretly filming their scenes in only half of their costume.
Because of a record heatwave in England when we filmed the original #StarWars, most of the pilots wore only the top-half of their costume, attacking the Death Star wearing shorts. #TrueStory https://t.co/RSgZRneft9

That's right. Though it may appear as though the likes of Luke Skywalker, Wedge Antilles, and the rest of the Rebels were soaring through space in their full orange flight suits, according to Mark Hamill, this Death Star attack was actually executed whilst the majority of the actors were simply sat in their shorts.
The fact these cockpit moments were only filmed from the chest up helped successfully fool innocent audiences into believing they were just watching some brave, fully costumed heroes save the galaxy.
