After scoring hit after box-office hit with a string of big-budget sci-fi and action movies, Dunkirk marks Christopher Nolan’s first attempt at a war film. Shot on location in the eponymous Dunkirk, France, Nolan’s war epic chronicles the famous Dunkirk evacuation, and boasts a stellar cast that includes Nolan regulars Tom Hardy and Cillian Murphy, as well as Mark Rylance, Kenneth Branagh, and James D’Arcy.
Rather bizarrely, the movie also stars Harry Styles, the casting of whom will probably either be one of the best or worst decisions of Christopher Nolan’s life.
Dunkirk’s most recent trailer showed off some pretty breath-taking images, the work of Her and Interstellar cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema. Like Ridley Scott, one expects a certain inherent quality when approaching a Christopher Nolan movie, so here’s hoping that such an important historical event is done justice.
