10 Most Criminally Underrated British Horror Movies

4. Wake Wood

Eden Lake
Hammer Films

Distilling the classic Hammer Horror quality into one superb concept, Wake Wood is the British answer to Pet Sematary, though distinctly devoid of any zombie cats. When a couple lose their daughter to a vicious dog attack, they decide to relocate. As luck would have it, the village they happen upon holds the secret to resurrecting the dead for three days, allowing the parents to see their child for one last time when they convince the locals to help them with their ritual.

Of course, bringing back old corpses never works out as you'd like, and Wake Wood wouldn't be on this list if everything turned out fine after a bout of grave robbing and black magic. Eerie in atmosphere and forcing questions that none of us would ever want to face, the film is a Twilight Zone-esque dive into the process of grief in all its desperate glory, proving some things are just best left buried.
