10 Most Unintentionally Hilarious Horror Movies

7. Reefer Madness

A melodramatic morality play designed to keep kids off drugs, this risible 1936 polemic most likely did the complete opposite. Reefer Madness was financed by a church group whose intention was to scare kids off cannabis. In doing so, they devised one of the most accidentally glorious stoner flicks ever written.

The groups intentions were not un-noble, but they made the cardinal error of assuming their intended adolescent audience was populated entirely by idiots. Written and directed, presumably, by folks who’d never so much as smelled marijuana, the film depicts a group of meek teens who try the so-called “harmless” drug and descend instantly into a life of frenzied criminality, violence, and suicide.

It was goofy in the ‘30s and it’s downright bananas now, chock full of ill educated moralising, dreadful acting (the stars of the day were savvy enough to stay away from this nonsense), and a self satirising ending in which the doctor character points into the camera to warn parents: your children could be next. This concern was, of course, made all the more likely by watching this film.
