10 Movie Adaptations That Should Have Been TV Shows

1. The Harry Potter Series

Criticising the Harry Potter movies is not the easiest thing to do. To have an eight-film franchise in which every single entry is good is almost unheard of.

For those who have read and re-read the novels, however, the movie adaptations were certainly lacking in some areas.

Given that the first three books were relatively short, their movie counterparts were largely faithful to the source material. But as the series went on, J.K. Rowling’s stories became much longer, and as a consequence, much of her material was left out. This was particularly noticeable with the adaptations of The Goblet of Fire, The Order of the Phoenix, and The Half-Blood Prince.

Had the books been adapted for television, fans of the series would have been able to see much more of Rowling’s world. Some of the best elements of the novels – such as the Marauder’s backstory, the Quidditch World Cup, the Ministry of Magic, and Voldemort’s past – were butchered in the movies.

In fairness, television shows did not usually have the financial backing to create something as ambitious as Harry Potter back in the early 2000s. Now, however, the Harry Potter books are begging to be made into a television show.
