8. Neiman's Timing Was Actually Spot On - Whiplash

Jack Sparrow Pirates of the Caribbean
Sony Pictures Classics

Few scenes have been able to conjure up a feeling of pure, unadulterated anxiety from its audience more than the sight of J.K. Simmons' Terence Fletcher berating Miles Teller's Andrew Neiman in Whiplash for not quite producing the tempo he was looking for on the drums.

Starting off in a softly spoken manner, directing the young jazz drummer to stop rushing and dragging on the back of his requests, a chair being launched at Neiman's head opens the door for a barrage of uncomfortably aggressive "teaching" from the ruthless instructor.

Yet, on top of Neiman not actually being massively off the mark at all with his tempo during the scene, it turns out that he was actually spot on when verbally counting off 215 BPM too, despite the fact that Fletcher abuses the youngster for not getting it right in their exchange.

So, this only adds more fuel to the fire that is Fletcher simply going out of his way to be a monumental d*ck on his disturbing quest to turn the talented drummer into a musical sensation.
