10 Movie Details That Aren’t As Important As You Think
1. Gwen Stacy - Spider-Man 3
Gwen Stacy is one of the most pivotal characters in all of the Spider-Man universe.
Peter Parker's first love, Gwen is cruelly killed when Spider-Man tries to save her from falling, only to accidentally snap her neck through web-induced whiplash.
Her death haunts Peter for the rest of his days and plays an integral part in his development as a superhero. It is one of the most important and famous moments in comic book history, Spider-Man or otherwise.
The moment was captured on film in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, where Emma Stone plays the character. However, seven years earlier, Gwen Stacy had already appeared in a Spider-Man movie, although in a drastically altered role.
Portrayed by Bryce Dallas Howard, Gwen is the daughter of an NYPD captain and... that's it. She briefly becomes romantically involved with Peter when he's infused with the symbiote, but her influence on the film stops there.
Howard's character could have been called literally anything else and it would have had the same effect on the story of the film. Having her play Stacy was obviously a nod to the comics, but fans were left feeling incredibly confused when her appearance amounted to nothing.
