The Franchise: Guy Ritchie's King Arthur: Legend of the Sword was intended to be the first in a six-movie Arthurian cinematic universe, each of which would follow different legendary characters before they'd all converge for an Avengers-esque team-up movie. Sound familiar?

What Happened?: Budgeted at a ludicrous $175 million, King Arthur never really stood a chance, and ended up grossing just $148.7 million, with predominantly negative reviews to boot (despite actually being pretty decent).

Ritchie's gritty, cheeky interpretation of Arthurian legend was summarily rejected, with Warner Bros. quickly shuttering their plans while Ritchie swiftly moved on to his live-action Aladdin adaptation.
