10 Movie Presidents We Would Totally Vote For

6. Andrew Shepherd - The American President

Here's a film about politics with a difference, sharply scribed by the best writer in the business, Aaron Sorkin. The American President has Michael Douglas playing Andrew Shepherd, a widowed father who is about to start his re-election campaign, while also trying to raise his young daughter, and get back on his feet after losing his wife. He ends up falling for a lobbyist, Sydney Ellen Wade (Annette Bening), and the film aptly captures the push-and-pull of Shepherd trying to juggle his Presidential duties with his personal ones; it is, safe to say, one of Douglas' most underrated performances. But why would we vote for him? On a superficial level, the guy wins our sympathy vote, and he's also savagely good looking, so that'll help the female vote a little, plus we get an uncommonly intimate glimpse at a President here, in all of his pain, that just makes him seem a little more likeable. It goes to show that even the Leader of the Free World can have woman problems, too.
