10 Movie Reveals So Bad You Almost Walked Out
5. Graves Is Grindelwald - Fantastic Beasts & Where To Find Them
If you saw Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them in the cinema, you'll likely remember the wave of bewilderment that spread throughout the audience when, in the climax, MACUSA's Director of Magical Security, Percival Graves (Colin Farrell), was revealed to be the villainous Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) in disguise.
Considering Farrell's solid performance throughout the movie, having to witness his likeness fizzle away and transform into a white-haired Johnny Depp was... not something anyone asked for or was particularly excited about.
It was about as blatant and lazy as sequel-baiting storytelling gets, yet all the same, it simply left many fans lamenting that Graves had basically been jettisoned out of the franchise in one fell swoop, substituting the very capable Farrell for the considerably less persuasive, mug-happy Depp.
And while Depp certainly can't be blamed for the Fantastic Beasts' series fast decline, considering everything that's happened since that first movie - namely Depp being replaced by Mads Mikkelsen for the third film - they probably should've just stuck with Farrell from the beginning.
Despite what Hollywood believes, random A-lister cameos aren't a golden path to success, and this deflating appearance is proof perfect of why.
