10 Movie Sequels That Brought Characters Back In The Worst Way Possible

8. Gordon - Saw 3D

Ever since he chopped off his foot and crawled on his bloody stump to escape Jigsaw's game in the very first Saw movie, Cary Elwes's Dr. Lawrence Gordon became one of the biggest mysteries in the franchise. Fans adored the character, and spent years wondering whether his sacrifice in the initial flick actually resulted in him living a long, happy life, or whether or not he simply bled out shortly after the credits rolled.

The creators clearly understood the appeal of the character, however for the longest time Elwes and the producers couldn't come to an agreement on the salary for a return stint as Gordon, resulting in him virtually never being mentioned again.

He did return, however, for the then-final Saw movie. His reappearance confirmed the long-rumoured theory that Gordon actually went on to help Jigsaw, but it was executed in the most rushed way possible.

The main problem was that this final movie was actually supposed to be a two-parter which would properly dive into Lawrence being Jigsaw's main apprentice. When those plans were slashed, so was Elwes' role, meaning his "return" barely registered in the grand scheme of things.
