10 Movie Sequels You Have No Idea Were Just Released
6. Confess, Fletch
1985's Fletch, adapted from Gregory Mcdonald's popular Fletch novels, starred Chevy Chase as the titular Los Angeles Times reporter who gets ensnared in a life-threatening mystery.
Fletch was a critical and commercial hit, leading to 1989's Fletch Lives, which while broadly successful at the box office grossed considerably less than its predecessor amid wildly mixed reviews.
Numerous attempts have been made over the years to produce a third Fletch film - some starring Chase, others not - and earlier this year we were finally gifted a threequel, Confess, Fletch.
Jon Hamm took over the mantle this time, but with him being just a few years older than Chase was when he filmed Fletch Lives, it feels less like a reboot than a spiritual continuation in the vein of the James Bond franchise, with a new actor simply taking over the reins.
Unlike most films on this list, though, Confess, Fletch is actually a lot of fun and was widely praised by critics, yet you'd barely know it given that Paramount sent the $20 million comedy out to die with only the most minimal marketing.
With its atrocious box office performance - even accepting a day-and-date VOD release in the U.S. - it sadly looks like the Fletch franchise is about to take another "extended sabbatical" for the foreseeable future.
