The breath of fresh air in the DCEU that was Shazam! has sadly been lost in both the good and the bad of 2019 comic book outings.

While its possible that the sheer light-hearted fun of the movie will make it a fond memory in the future, as it stands the conversation has well and truly lulled and its box office receipts were less than desirable.

It still turned a profit, but it was far and away from your regular DC money expectations. The film earned $360 million against a much more modest budget for a superhero movie, making it a small success for the studio.

A sequel is also in development thanks to its good reception and smart budgeting, so perhaps a continued success in the franchise will bring Shazam! back into favourable memory. But with the slate of superhero content from Marvel seemingly in a never ending expanse, it's hard to say whether a Shazam! sequel will survive the market. Only time will tell.
