10 Movies Ruined By Impossible Expectations

6. Superman Returns

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6aWxJ0cxD8c What We Expected: This was the first Superman film in just under 20 years, and with X-Men director Bryan Singer at the helm, expectations were at an all-time high for the franchise, that the brainchild who kickstarted cinema's comic book obsession would be able to return the Man of Steel to the greatness of the first two Christopher Reeve-starring films. He had a great cast assembled, including Frank Langella as Perry White and Kevin Spacey as Lex Luthor, as well as a fresh-faced new talent playing Superman by the name of Brandon Routh. What We Got: An ambitious and entertaining take on the Superman mythos that hewed away from the typical formula and aimed for something a little more daring, depicting Superman coming back from a long absence from Earth, where he spends as much of the film dealing with his relationship issues (Lois has given birth to his son) as he does Luthor and co. The film is good fun on the whole, but fanboys were disappointed that this wasn't the whizz-bang Superman they had been expecting, but something more sombre and low-key. Herein lies the problem in editing overly busy, action-packed trailers that give viewers the wrong impression.
