10 Movies That Are Just Giant Adverts

9. The Internship (Google)

The Internship Released in the UK this past weekend, The Internship just might be the Queen Mother of feature-length adverts posing as movies. Depicting two down-and-outers (played by Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn) trying their hardest to become Google employees by way of an eccentric internship at their offices, this movie would be better off just being called Google: The Movie, because that's essentially what it is. It has to be said that Google didn't fund the movie, though they did allow some shooting on their campus, before co-operating with the production building a replica of Google HQ. Simply, this wasn't some throw-away use of the product; Google had a very hands-on engagement with what has turned out to be a reprehensible movie. Roughly half the film's script is filled with references to Chrome, G-Mail and so on, which in a comedy that sorely over-extends itself at 2-hours long quickly becomes tiresome. From first shot to last, this is Hollywood at its most crassly cynical.
