From the King of the Ring to the King of the Jews. Mel Gibson is back with a follow up to his 2004 biblical drama The Passion of the Christ.

Gibson who revealed the sequels title in 2016 will again call upon Jim Caveziel who portrayed Jesus Christ in the 2004 film. Despite Caveziel’s apparent career downturn since portraying Jesus, he has returned to work with Gibson on a film that according to the director is not a straightforward “chronological telling of Christ’s resurrection”. The sequel will detail Christ’s experiences in the 3 days between crucifixion and resurrection.

More interestingly however, will be the reaction to a film which follows on from one of the most controversial movies of all time. Gibson’s original was heavily criticised for its historical accuracy, alleged anti-Semitism and excessive violence. The film caused wide spread outrage in a pre-social media era.

If The Passion of the Christ: Resurrection is even half as polarizing as the first instalment expect Mel Gibson to be crucified on Twitter.
