7. The Trench

DC Comics

To be honest, the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) hasn’t quite hit the same heights as Marvel’s vastly successful equivalent the MCU. But there certainly have been moments that showed great promise, among them the $1.14 billion earning Aquaman movie. With the sequel not arriving in cinemas until December 2022, DC have made the interesting move of releasing a spin-off from James Wan’s 2018 blockbuster.

The Trench will see a return of the eponymous creatures, that tormented the King of the Seven Seas and Mera in Aquaman. Whilst, neither Aquaman nor Mera will appear in The Trench, Wan’s horror-tinged spin-off marks a return to Atlantis before Aquaman 2, with producer Peter Safran and director Wan hoping to emulate the successful Conjuring universe.

Safran who has worked closely with the Conjuring franchise, has seen success in gradually expanding the shared universe that has seen the release of the Annabelle films and more recently The Nun.

Although few plot details are known The Trench promises to be a terrifying treat. But how often DC delve into this new universe will be of interest to many comic book fans.
