In October 2006, Martin Scorsese unleashed The Departed into cinemas. In the ten years since then, only really The Wolf Of Wall Street and Shutter Island have come close to matching its quality. Truly, The Departed is one of Scorseses best directorial efforts. The plot an undercover cop and a criminal mole within the Boston police department, trying to identify each other is one of those simple yet engaging ideas that sizzling scripts often arise from. As a result, The Departed is chock full of nail-biting tension and attention-demanding intrigue. In the decade since its release, there arguably hasnt been another drama with this star-studded a cast. Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, jack Nicholson, Mark Wahlberg, Martin Sheen, Alex Baldwin and Ray Winstone all star, and they all give some of their best performances, too. With a script as tight as this one (penned by William Monahan), The Departed allows this immense cast and their director to deliver one of the truly great crime dramas. It may be ten years old soon, but its still as awesome as ever.
