10 Movies You Won't Believe Turn 10 Years Old In 2016

7. The Illusionist

Since releasing The Illusionist on unsuspecting American audiences in August 2006, director Neil Burger has gone on to helm the sizeable hit films Limitless and Divergent. Before The Illusionist, though - unless you€™d seen his 2002 directorial debut Interview With The Assassin €“ he was a complete unknown. It€™s no surprise that his stock rose significantly after he wrote and directed this Ed Norton, Paul Giamatti and Jessica Biel-starring film, though. The Illusionist was a mind-bending mystery movie and a compelling romantic drama rolled into one, which resulted in a cinematic spectacle that audiences really engaged with. Norton gives one of his best performances as Eisenheim, the eponymous Illusionist who gets embroiled in a conflict with the Crown Prince of Denmark (Rufus Sewell) because they both love the same woman (Biel€™s Duchess Sophie). This makes for an engaging central drama, as tension really ratchets up between the pair of potential suitors. The Prince sets Inspector Uhl (Giamatti) after Eisenheim, but it soon becomes apparent that Norton€™s character €“ of course €“ has a few tricks up his sleeve. Emotional, intriguing, and engaging, Neil Burger still hasn€™t topped this excellent movie. If you€™ve not managed to catch it in the past ten years, it€™s not too late to seek it out.
