Who Could Star: Kristen Stewart

An Amy Winehouse biopic was in the offing a little while ago, with Noomi Rapace leading. Though that never came to fruition, the documentary movie on the troubled star, entitled simply Amy, was both a critical and commercial success, so chances of a fully fledged biopic remain somewhat decent.

Winehouse was a throwback star, in more ways than one. Her voice had the soulful richness of the old jazz singers, her distinctive beehive look lifted from the 60s and given a modern twist with the ripped clothes, thick makeup and several tattoos.

Even her drug fuelled lifestyle felt like something from a time before the pop star era, back before PR consultants, spokespeople and focus group feedback. She led a life which was sad and tragic, but had its moments of poetry too.

In 2018 it was reported that a biopic (different to the Rapace one) was in the works, with the family selling the rights and the money going to The Amy Winehouse Foundation. Alison Owen and Debra Hayward are attached to direct, with Kinky Boots writer Geoff Deane on the screenplay.

No star has been mentioned yet, but there are definitely worse choices than Kristen Stewart.
