10 Old-School Toho Kaiju That Legendary Need To Reincarnate

1. Destoroyah

Last but not least, it’s Destoroyah. This gigantic sadistic crustacean would make the perfect addition to the Legendary MonsterVerse. His transformation from tiny test-tube critter to world-conquering colossus is one of the most thrilling in any Kaiju movie, and his mean, explosive showdown with Godzilla is one of Toho’s finest.

Destoroyah is named after the Oxygen Destroyer bomb which sucked all of the oxygen out of the ocean in order to kill Godzilla in his first ever movie. Forty years later, in 1995's Godzilla Vs. Destoroyah, it emerges that the Oxygen Destroyer, when it killed Godzilla, also contaminated a group of Precambrian crustaceans on the ocean floor.

When they are reanimated, Destoroyah - an evil creature of demonic temperament and enormous destructive power - is born.

Given his real-world origins in crustacean life forms and the darkness of his calculating, malevolent personality, Destoroyah would fit in well with the grittily realist approach taken by Legendary’s monster designers without them having to go bananas on the made up science.

Don't forget, either, that the US military actually deployed an Oxygen Destroyer in King of the Monsters. This hefty, scaly bruiser could well be in Legendary’s sights.
