Ryan Gosling is exactly the kind of heartthrob actor Hollywood loves - after starting out as a child actor he hit the big time with the romantic drama The Notebook in 2004 and promptly won a string of Teen Choice Awards along with an MTV Movie Award. Gosling's looks are probably his best assets if his acting career is anything to go by - despite a reasonable performance in 2006's Half Nelson as a junior high school teacher with a drug addiction Gosling has yet to truly stretch himself as an actor. Regarded by some as his finest performance, his role as a getaway driver in Drive perhaps best exemplified his appeal - stoic, furrow-browed and largely silent, he comes across more as a model posing for a photoshoot rather than an actor truly inhabiting an interesting character. Still, he'd be hard pushed to deliver a performance more farcical than his role as Sgt. Jerry Wooters in Gangster Squad - verging on parody it was about as unintentionally hilarious as acting gets.
