10 Predictable Horror Movie Twists Everyone Saw Coming

8. Happy Death Day 2U - Gregory Is The New Killer

1408 John Cusack
Universal

Plot: Tree (Jessica Rothe) ends up in another time-loop, but in a different dimension.

This nonsensical sequel goes the multi-verse route, which means repeating the time-loop premise of the first film, just in a different reality. Therefore, there are some differences to the scenario; most notably, this also means that there's a new killer stalking protagonist Tree.

Writer-director Christopher Landon is very talented, but he really dropped the ball here as he went for the most obvious killer choice imaginable: Dr Gregory Butler (Charles Aitken), the professor Tree was having an affair with in the first film (which motivated the first film's killer, a jealous fellow student, to go after her).

Few won't see this coming - he was closely linked to the original time loop and he's the one with the most obvious motive to kill Tree (to cover up their affair) - and when the killer does unmask, it'll induce nothing but groans. It's ironic really, since the first film had a really good surprise villain.
