10 Promising Movies Cancelled For Bizarre Reasons
1. A Pay Dispute Killed The Men In Black-21 Jump Street Crossover
Long before Avengers: Infinity War, an even more ambitious cross-over event was planned by studio executives at Sony. The idea - to combine the Men in Black franchise with the newly rebooted 21 Jump Street series.
Although rumours surrounding the project had been circulating for a while, the news was officially confirmed following the leaking of internal emails during the 2014 Sony Pictures hack.
The film, set to be helmed by The Muppet's James Bobin, was due to feature Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum reprising their roles alongside two newly casted Men in Black agents.
However, when it came time for Sony to assemble the production team required for the film they stumbled upon a minefield of negotiations.
The project required getting big names such as Steven Spielberg, who had executive produced all the previous MIB films, on side and persuading Jump Street's writers Chris Miller and Phil Lord to relinquish the lucrative opportunity to produce the film.
Ultimately, this challenge proved simply too much for the studio. It was later reported that Jump Street producer Neal Moritz's refusal to compromise was the final nail in the project's coffin.
Although not in this form, the Men in Black franchise was eventually rebooted with moderate success in 2019's MIB: International and Jump Street looks to be following a similar fate with a female-led reboot starring Tiffany Haddish and Zendaya apparently in the works.
