Marvel have become renowned for their interesting director choices that, while a tad off the wall, really work; Kenneth Brannagh for Thor, Joss Whedon for The Avengers, and the directors of Arrested Development for what seems like the next few big movies. Edgar Wright was one of those, with the kinetic energy in his Three Flavours Cornetto Trilogy seeming the right fit for a film with a microscopic hero. In the aftermath of his departure names of many potential replacements were banded around - Nicholas Stoller, Ruben Fleischer, David Wain - but the gig ultimately went to Peyton Reed. To save you the obligatory IMDb search whenever his name is mentioned, Reed is the guy behind Bring It On, The Break Up and, most recently, Yes Man. Yeah, that really doesn't fill us with confidence. Yes Man was an interesting idea with a strong lead and yet ended up being rather generic, notable only for the usual Jim Carrey gurning. There's no previous experience in action, nor making objectively great films; if Ant-Man ends up being a typical Reed film then it'll be one of the MCU's weakest.
