3. Sony Couldn't Even Get Disney To Put A Building In The Avengers

After The Avengers was released and shortly before The Amazing Spider-Man made it to theatres, it was reported that Disney and Sony had been in negotiations to include the Oscorp tower from Spider-Man in the New York City skyline in The Avengers. It was only meant to be an Easter Egg for the fans, not an indication of any upcoming crossover. However, because The Avengers effects artists had already rendered its Manhattan skyline Disney couldn't make it happen. While timing complications were obviously the main issue, the fact that Disney and Sony had to sit down to negotiate putting a building in what would likely be a shot that lasted only seconds in The Avengers shows how difficult hurdling these rights issues is. If Disney can't even put a digitally rendered inanimate object into a movie without negotiations, just imagine how complicated the negotiations to get Spider-Man himself in the movie would be.
