10 Reasons Ghostbusters Isn't As Bad As You Think
2. It Sets A Solid Foundation For A Better Sequel
It's absolutely fair to say that the new Ghostbusters is a pretty safe reboot for the most part: it works within a familiar wheelhouse and, outside of the gender-swap itself, takes very few risks.
The result is an entertaining, broad movie that feels oddly similar to Star Wars: The Force Awakens, in so much as it re-ignites a dormant franchise in an accessible fashion and, presuming it's successful, can then lead to more ambitious storytelling in future installments.
Ghostbusters' post-credits scene teases a tantalising prospect for the inevitable sequel, and hopefully Paul Feig and co. will make good on that while toning down the homages to the original movies and coming up with some original scenarios and set-pieces. Here's to hoping, at least, and any potential success won't simply tell the filmmakers, "Let's just keep exploiting nostalgia."
