10 Reasons Prometheus 2 Should Be Scrapped For Alien 5

6. The Prometheus Mysteries Don't Really Matter

One of the key selling points of a Prometheus sequel is that it will solve some of the mysteries cobbled together by the first film, specifically why the Engineers wanted to kill humanity so badly. It's an intriguing enough mystery we suppose, but in the grand scheme of things, does it really matter? If the horror genre as a whole has taught us anything at all, it's that the mystery itself is usually more gratifying than the answers or explanations, which ultimately de-mystify the antagonist to the point that they're no longer scary. Prometheus 2 seems to be centered around Shaw finding out why the Engineers wanted to destroy Earth, but the answer will likely never be as enjoyable as allowing the conversation to grow and have people create their own fan theories. Ridley Scott himself teased one of the more interesting theories, that Jesus himself was an Engineer, and the Engineers are as such super-p***ed off that we decided to execute him. Still, now that Ridley's hinted at it, he can't exactly use that one, can he? Simply, we're just not that bothered about finding out why the Engineers wanted humanity dead, because we're pretty sure we prefer the ideas in our heads. We'd rather see the Alien world expanded than see Scott devote so much of his time and energy to continuing this thread...
