When Marvel Studios kicked off the next big trend of shared universes across Hollywood, there were multiple different attempts by multiple different studios, none of which have come close to the same success as the MCU. Arguably, the next best shared universe has been Legendary's MonsterVerse, which has brought Godzilla and King Kong together like never before.

However, even with Godzilla's renaissance on the big screen opposite the Eighth Wonder of the World, the best Godzilla film in a long time has come completely separate to this iteration. This was 2023's Godzilla Minus One, and it was arguably one of the strongest Godzilla movies of all time, which is genuinely said without hyperbole.

Set in post-war Japan, Godzilla attacked with the nation at its lowest and most desperate time. It showed Godzilla as a true goliath, and unlike plenty of other monster movies, had genuinely compelling human characters and stories alongside it.

The news that a sequel is coming was met with universal joy. Godzilla Minus Zero will be released in late 2026 after the beast was teased to have survived in 2023, and while the Academy Award-winning original has given it a lot to live up to, this feels like a sequel that could be even better.
