10 Recent Horror Movie Endings Nobody Can Agree On

8. Companion

Nosferatu
Warner Bros.

The ludicrously entertaining sci-fi horror Companion was a wild ride from start to finish, though by the time it wraps up with companion robot Iris (Sophie Thatcher) killing her malicious owner Josh (Jack Quaid) and fleeing to start her "life" anew, there were many left thinking, "Eh, Ex Machina did it better."

Indeed, Companion's ending earned a ton of less-favourable comparisons to Alex Garland's sci-fi masterpiece, and while there's no shame in coming up short compared to such a brilliant film, some clearly wished that it took a less predictable, more intriguingly unique direction.

But Companion is also a fun movie whose ending hit the mark for a lot of people, granting Iris emancipation from Josh in decidedly crowd-pleasing fashion.

It wasn't remotely surprising that she killed him with that wildly signposted electric corkscrew, but unpredictability isn't everything - sometimes a movie just needs to give the audience what they want, and in the eyes of many, it did just that.
