10 Recent Horror Movie Endings Nobody Can Agree On

7. Wolf Man

Leigh Whannell's Wolf Man is one of the most divisive horror films of the year as a whole, and that's certainly true of its finale.

While the film more-or-less concluded how most surely expected, with the demise of disease-infected protagonist Blake (Christopher Abbott) at the hands of his wife Charlotte (Julia Garner), viewers were split on the success of its emotional undercurrent.

Wolf Man's ending is intended to be devastatingly tragic, with Blake effectively being put out of his misery by his own family, but many found the ending disappointingly lacking in gravitas, some feeling that it failed to muster the visceral quality of, say, David Cronenberg's The Fly, from which this film was clearly inspired.

But there were those who found it affecting enough to pass the sniff test, in large part thanks to Christopher Abbott's strong performance as Blake and the film's restrained deviation from a more over-the-top, explosively violent ending.

It'll certainly be interesting to see what the consensus is on this film in a decade or two - or whether it remains a polarising relic forever more.
