10 Recent Movie Choices That Pissed Off The Fans

3. Indiana Jones And The Dial Of Destiny - Mistreating Indiana Jones

This one was really unpleasant to watch.

Though not as bad as the fourth film, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny wasn't very good at all, and the way that it treated one of the most beloved characters of all time was just horrid.

In Dial of Destiny, Indiana Jones (Harrison Ford) is now a miserable alcoholic who separated from his wife after their son died in the Vietnam War. The film relentlessly beats Indy down, refuses to give him any sort of arc, and has him playing second-fiddle to his ghastly goddaughter, Helena Shaw (Phoebe Waller-Bridge), who's one of the most irritating movie characters in recent memory.

During the film's climax, which involves time travel, Indy asks Helena to leave him behind in the past to die, and he only returns because she knocks him out and takes him back herself. Who actually thought that this was what fans wanted to see?

It's interesting to compare this to the backlash over a certain other Lucasfilm sequel; namely, The Last Jedi and its controversial depiction of Luke Skywalker having become a cynical hermit. The criticism of that wasn't as fair, as in that case, Skywalker did get a triumphant ending in which he learned to hope again. Indiana Jones 5, on the other hand? The fans were right on this one.
