My Spy - a Kindergarten Cop-esque action comedy starring Dave Bautista - had its intended release thoroughly torpedoed by the pandemic.

Though it still released theatrically in some territories in early 2020, it ultimately went direct-to-streaming in North America, where it came and went in the blink of an eye.

It certainly wasn't a bad movie, but a passable entertainment you forget existed the moment it's over. And yet despite how blatantly this seemed to be a one-off, sequel My Spy: The Eternal City went into production in 2023.

However, this follow-up eschewed a theatrical release entirely, instead releasing straight to Amazon Prime Video, with a trailer dropping barely a month before its July 2024 release.

The result was many likely being surprised at seeing its thumbnail appear on the streaming service, given that this thing had only the bare minimum marketing push possible.

It was hardly shocking, then, that My Spy: The Eternal City was panned by critics, and the lack of concrete viewing figures likely suggests it didn't move the needle much there either.
