6. Sam Gets Tempted By The Dark Side - Scream VI

The fifth Scream film did a rock solid job of introducing fans to the "Core Four," as the new heroes would eventually be called in Scream VI.

One of the fifth movie's more polarising elements, however, was that Sam Carpenter (Melissa Barrera), as the daughter of original Ghostface killer Billy Loomis (Skeet Ulrich), would periodically see visions of her father, who tried to goad her into giving in to her murderous instincts.

It was a goofy conceit which, beyond that, applied some less-than-convincing digital de-aging to Skeet Ulrich. And while many fans hoped the mixed feedback to this gimmick would result in it being dropped for Scream VI, it in fact made a regrettable return.

Billy makes a few brief appearances in the most recent film, once again taunting Sam as a hallucination, and it again comes off as far sillier than the filmmakers clearly think it does.

Even accepting that Sam would almost certainly have no idea about Billy's voice or mannerisms, the Billy visions feel like they belong in a much schlockier piece of work.

Considering that few fans likely expected Sam to succumb to the dark side in the movie, it really only compounded how awkward and out-of-place this whole plot felt.

Sam embracing her killer instinct to finish Ghostface off was a pretty neat touch, though.
