10 Awesome Recent Movies You Probably Missed
7. Exhuma
The Substance. The Invisible Man. Nosferatu. Barbarian. Host - it's been a great decade for horror so far. There's also another hidden gem that's barely received any attention: South Korea's Exhuma.
It's not surprising that this has flown under the radar, for screenings in the West were few and far between. As such, this is a PSA to go and check out this excellent supernatural horror flick right now, for horror fans who sleep on this are doing themselves a huge disservice.
Exhuma, which tells the story of a grave excavation that has terrible consequences, is another reminder that South Korean cinema is some of the greatest in the world. Like many of the country's best movies, Exhuma uses familiar genre tropes to tell heartfelt, gripping and uniquely Korean stories. It does all this while offering up superb filmmaking, clever non-linear editing and a bevvy of fantastic performances (including from Oldboy's Choi Min-sik) in the bargain.
It's a wonderful horror movie, one of the genre's best from 2024... sadly, most won't have even heard of it. Thankfully, the film has made its way onto Shudder, so hopefully more viewers will start to discover its atmospheric delights soon.
