10 Sequels To Classic Movies You Had No Idea Existed
6. The Sting II
Its hard to understand the reasoning behind The Sting II. The Sting was a critically acclaimed box office smash, which went on to win 7 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. It reteamed Paul Newman and Robert Redford, and their chemistry is the reason it works so well. The official reason they didnt appear in The Sting II is that they were both unavailable, but its more likely they read the script and wisely decided to stay well clear. Instead Jackie Gleeson and Mac Davis step into their shoes. Sort of. Although they play characters with similar names, they now have different personas and backgrounds, and the film doesnt seem to acknowledge the events of the original. And even on their best day, Gleeson and Davis are no substitute for Newman and Redford. Interestingly it might have turned out different, as Richard Pryor was attached to the film at one point. Superman III must have paid more. Thats only part of the problem with The Sting II, which has an uninvolving story and very little of the breezy charm of the first part. The film quickly flopped at the box office and faded from memory.
