5. The Birds II: Lands End
Making a sequel to a classic Hitchcock movie doesnt have to spell disaster. Psycho II proved that it was possible to make a follow-up that both respected the original, whilst being a well made thriller in its own right. But the first warning signs for The Birds II: Lands End is that its directed by Alan Smithee, a well known pseudonym for directors who wish to disown their work. But if Alan Smithee was real, even he'd be embarrassed to have his name on this. Despite the title, The Birds II isnt a direct sequel and is more of a remake of the original. Making things more confusing on that front is that Tippi Hedren, the main star of The Birds, returns but plays a completely different character. As with the original, birds suddenly start attacking the population of a small town, and a group of survivors have to try and survive natures wrath. They also have to survive bad acting, special effects and listless direction. The final word on The Birds II can be left to Tippi Hedren herself, who said this about it in an interview years later: "It's absolutely horrible, it embarrasses me horribly."
