10 Shameless Movie Rip-Offs That Totally Sucked

3. Great White (Jaws)

Following E.T., we have another classic Steven Spielberg film being shamelessly ripped off, and that's his Jaws, the inaugural blockbuster that started the very trend we complain about so much these days. Jaws also kick-started the trends for horror films to focus on the dangers of the ocean depths, and while this resulted in a lot of exotic creatures coming to the surface to terrorise humans, a film like Great White didn't dare to be so imaginative, and just stuck with ol' faithful itself. Here's a rip-off that brazenly doesn't give a damn that it's a rip-off; it doesn't even try to be slightly different, taking the same core plot and absolutely making a hilarious hash of it, using stock footage of sharks likely stolen from nature documentaries, combined with clips of mannequins being strewn about the water. In this instance, though, Universal Pictures did sue the Italian filmmakers behind the project, and the film's US release was in fact blocked; we think the judges saw the film and blocked it on the grounds that it sucked.
