10 Slasher Horror Movies That Had No Right To Be This Good
6. Fear Street Part Two: 1978 (2021)
Netflix's adaptation of RL Stine's Fear Street series was marketed as Netflix's horror event of the summer. A trilogy of terror anchoring around a small town with a history of gruesome massacres and witchy secrets, made for a fantastic premise for a modern slasher. However, an exposition-heavy script with more teen drama than slasher goodness got the series off to a rocky start.
Expectations for Part Two were subsequently diminished. But, to our delight, the follow-up was superior in all aspects.
Jumping back in time to the eponymous year and to a summer camp about to see a massacre. And now that the series was free of its obligatory set-up, this flick was able to indulge in the slasher tropes we were hoping for.
Although it took some time for the butchery to commence, this time was spent getting to know the characters, especially sisters played by Sadie Sink and Emily Rudd. Meaning that when the blood started to spill, we were deeply invested in who'd get out alive.
The witchy twist likewise gave the summer camp carnage and intriguing new spin whilst simultaneously building upon the overarching story in meaningful ways.
This was what we were hoping for and more from this trilogy.
