10 Star Trek Twists That Pissed Everyone Off

Sometimes Star Trek swung for the fences - and missed the mark entirely.

Twists are essential. A shock usually manages to shake things up in any medium, so they need to be handled carefully. Star Trek certainly has its share of twists that are absolutely wonderful, and jaw dropping, all at once. It's not massively important for a twist to be ground breaking, as long as there is something that it offers that truly surprises.

Now, having said all of that - this is a list of twists that did some of the above. They certainly may have shocked the audience, but not always for the better. There are those twists that are shoved into place simply to wind people up, which these managed. Then there are those twists which, no matter how much time passes, are simply unforgivable.

Star Trek is many things. Once of those things is a melting pot of many writers, working on many shows, all doing their best to make their mark. Sometimes, that causes them to swing wild. So many writers have tried to shock the world to ensure they'll never be forgotten. If we're being fair, some of these twists achieve that end.

But at what cost?

10. Wesley's Return

Well the internet certainly had feelings over this one. If you were like this author, then the arrival of Wesley Crusher in the finale of Picard's second season was a moment of fun and enjoyment. If, however, you were one of the vocal contingent online, this return came with a bit of a price.

It had been 28 years since Wil Wheaton last had a speaking role in Star Trek that wasn't left on the cutting room floor, so it's natural to assume that there might be a bit of adjustment to the change in performance after all. Several commenters believed that Wheaton's performance felt like an extended segment of his presenting on The Ready Room.

There certainly is a degree of fairness to this. This may not be the biggest criticism that Wesley Crusher has ever faced, but it certainly banded a section of the fandom together. However, it must be said - no matter how many a return is called for, some folks will simply never be happy!
