8. Why Did Obi-Wan Kenobi Call Vader "Darth"?
That Jedi General who left fans wondering what the Clone Wars really were for decades also managed to drop another mysterious moment into 1977's Star Wars.
Easily one of the most iconic showdowns in the franchise's history, Darth Vader and Obi-Wan Kenobi's final battle on the Death Star may not have been as athletic as some of the fights to come, but that still didn't stop it from being a hugely dramatic duel.
But it was also a laser sword clash that contained a weird moment when Kenobi referred to his one-time Padawan as just "Darth."
Now this was obviously just a case of George Lucas not having decided in 1977 that "Darth" would eventually become the title used by Sith Lords. But within this universe, it still wasn't really explained for a long ol' time why Kenobi chucked a "Darth" at Vader.
Some fans theorised that this was Kenobi's way of mocking the fallen Jedi for choosing to turn to the dark side.
After waiting a grand total of 45 years (!), though, an explanation was somewhat provided in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
Kenobi calls his old friend "Darth" after their last, emotional duel in the show, with it definitely feeling like his use of the title here was his way of finally accepting that his brother was truly lost.
So, there you have it. In canon, Kenobi using the term "Darth" when talking to his old apprentice was actually his way of showing the Sith Lord he'd accepted Anakin was gone, and only Vader remained.
