10 Stephen King Movie Adaptations That Deserve A Remake
4. Silver Bullet
It’s been a good while since we’ve had a decent werewolf movie, and a revisit to King’s early eighties novella Cycle Of The Werewolf could provide the perfect source material. Originally the story was filmed as Silver Bullet in 1985, and stars a young Corey Haim (two years prior to The Lost Boys) as a disabled boy living in a small town, in which mysterious murders start to mount up each time the moon is full.
Haim starts to piece together the cause of the murders, and eventually he comes face to face with the supernatural beast. He manages to escape, but only his sister believes him as they then together try to investigate who it is that may be turning. At the heart of the story is that of a family coming together. Gary Busey stars as Haim’s Uncle and best friend, and the adult he and his sister must try to convince of the truth.
Silver Bullet came four years after arguably two of the greatest lycanthrope movies of all time in An American Werewolf In London and The Howling. But it doesn’t quite match up to standard set in those films, especially in terms of the practical effects used in the transformation scenes. However, the story is one which if revisited and improved upon in the SFX department, could potentially provide a creepy modern beast flick to rival the best in the genre.
